Generazione Fumetto

Seven artists tell how Italian comics went from a niche language to a mass cultural phenomenon.

Synopsis

Zerocalcare, Sara Pichelli, Sio, Mirka Andolfo, Maicol & Mirco, Rita Petruccioli and Giacomo Bevilacqua: seven perspectives on an art form that now speaks to everyone while remaining deeply personal. Between pages, festivals and confessions, the film also weaves in the voices of writers, readers, directors, comedians and linguists.

Not a documentary about comics, but of comics: a language telling its own story through the people who keep it alive.

Production notes

Produced by Valmyn, with Lucca Comics & Games as official partner. Gold handled the executive production: the crew and the post-production. We made it by hand, with few people and many ideas, the way a comic book is made.

Original music by Federico Orlandini, with an unreleased track by Danno produced by Dj Craim, which also became the music video Fumo di China. Logo by Luca Barcellona, drawings made for the film by Chiara Pinzauti.

Generazione Fumetto is the first volume of a larger project: a monographic series on the seven artists is in development.
